Barron's PENTA profile: BKLYN CLAY
I profiled BKLYN CLAY for Barron's PENTA -- Founded by Jennifer Waverek in 2018, BKLYN CLAY is a studio in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights with the aim of fostering a nurturing environment for people of all ages and skill levels to embrace the art of ceramics.
Fast forward to 2020, and the business entered uncharted waters with COVID-19. The studio survived thanks to the support of its members and government PPP funds, and Waverek said it presented a moment of reflection to envision a more inclusive direction for her business as the nation at large went through reckonings over race and social equity.
In 2021, she launched the studio's first Artist Residency, a program designed to support BIPOC creators in the studio.
