My interview with Mia Hamm
🎧 👂 Listen to my convo with soccer legend Mia Hamm for my podcast -- On Topic, Off Script 🎙️
~In this clip, she discusses how her team rallied behind her during a family health crisis.~
The two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time FIFA World Cup Champion sat down with me to discuss her role as an advocate for the bone marrow transplant community (BMT). At 25, Mia lost her older brother Garrett. He passed away from a fungal infection following a bone marrow transplant for myelodysplasia. He was just 28 years old. That loss spurred her to action. In 1999, she founded the Mia Hamm Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds and awareness for families in need of marrow and cord blood transplants as well as supporting opportunities for young women in sports.
She joined the pod to discuss this advocacy work and her partnership with Incyte for GVHD Now to raise awareness of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), which can be a life-threatening complication from stem and bone marrow transplants.
